So I know I said I was only going to take a two week vacation, but I ended up taking a month instead. Sorry about that. I as much more exhausted after the end of the movie than I realized, and when I got back to LA I moved into a new place and had a few other big things happen. Don't sweat it though, very little has happened since September 1st. Let me see:
-Everyone is back in LA and pretty much settled. Most of the non-editing effort now is about finishing up paperwork, tying up loose ends, etc.
-Editing is going great, the assembly is finished and now the effort is now full into refining the cut. Which takes forever. I have no idea when we'll have a rough cut, final cut, etc. I think the plan is to have a good rough cut by November, but of course that is dependent on many many factors.
-I haven't seen the assembly yet, I think Nils and I are going to see it later this week or early next. From what I understand, watching the assembly is always the most depressing part of the process, so I actually don't want to see the first assembly, and want to wait until it's a little more refined. [For those that don't know, the assembly is basically the very first cut, with the editor's best guess as to which takes to use in each scene, then all put together in one long film. It's usually significantly longer than the final movie and is depressing because it is usually very slow and staid, as contrasted to the final cut.]
-Unlike during shooting, I won't be writing much about what we are doing as we are doing it, because of two reason: Editing is extremely boring, and the rest of the stuff requires a "tell you after its happened" stance. This is mainly because distributor negotiations, etc, just can't be chronicled contemporaneously, for obvious reason.
-That being said, we have a TON of video that we haven't cataloged yet, and Greg is working furiously on that now. So there will be new stuff from the shooting coming.
-As should be expected, Gawker chickened out on the bet. Watching Gawker melt down was really funny and almost worth the whole thing by itself. When you can get your enemy to completely lose composure like that, you've won.
-For the next few months, I will probably only post 2-3 times per week. I am going to go back and address a lot of things I missed, answer all the questions from this thread, and clean stuff up like that, and get ready for the big PR push once we pick the distributor and decide on a release date.
