I grew up in Kentucky, and like all self-respecting Kentuckians, I bleed UK blue. My devotion borders on the absurd: I have made donations to a school I didn't even attend, I countenance no fault of any UK player who played on a national title team, and I haven't won an NCAA bracket pool since 1998 (the last time UK won a national title) because I refuse to put any team other than UK as winning. Kentucky basketball is the closest thing to a religion in my life. I invoke Adolph Rupp's name in my prayers and in my dreams, he sits on the left hand of the lord, who is of course a Wildcat. I can't imagine any other heaven.
Sadly, I live on the west coast, so I don't really get to see UK play, even on TV, because they always show the crappy Pac-10 teams instead of SEC teams out here. Of course, you can imagine how happy I was when they not only made the NCAA tourney after a truly awful start to their season, but their first round game was in Anaheim, only thirty minutes away from me. I even managed to get tickets to the game.
I am watching the game on TV right now, in agony because UK is down four at the half. Why am I not there? What possible force could keep me from seeing my beloved UK? We have a casting meeting at 2pm.
This should tell you how important this movie is to me: It came between me and my god.
